The Vera Bradley Company began when the founders, Patricia Miller and Barbara Bradley Baekgaard were on vacation in March of 1982.  They were awaiting a flight in Atlanta when they noticed a lack of feminine-looking luggage amongst airline passengers.  They decided to correct this and within weeks, the friends had created a company named after Barbara's mother, Vera.  This company was capable of marketing and manufacturing unique handbags and luggage items.
